The primary facets carved (marked as in Cumpiano book prior to carving)


 

 

In the photo above, I'm sanding with a fine drum. 

The initial stock removal is performed with a coarse drum. 

Note the Shop Vac hose in the flow of the dust.

 


Here are the primary facets are completed:

 

 


Here the secondary facets are marked.  The goal is to get the sanding drum to

remove the cross-hatched area with the boundary of the cut ending up on the solid lines

enclosing the hatch.  I find it very easy and intuitive to manipulate the drum to achieve this.

 

 


And here are the secondary facets done:

 


And refined by taking off small amounts to round the angular cuts with the fine drum:

 


And after sanding by hand with some finer paper to remove imperfections left by the drum:

 

 

The above photo is still a tiny bit "outside the line", and will be brought back

to the line during final surface prep done by hand sanding ... someday.
